How do you disconnect a country from the internet?

You drop an anchor ;)

A Sri Lankan court ordered that an Indian ship, which allegedly damaged a submarine cable severing the island’s main internet access with the rest of the world, be held at the port of Colombo till a a case seeking five million US dollars in damages was settled.
The Colombo district court ordered that the vessel, ‘State of Nagaland’ be held at the port where it is currently anchored until the case filed by Sri Lanka Telecom is heard on September 6.

SLT, the island’s main telecommunications provider said they want five million dollars in damages and that internet, international dialling and data services of 800,000 subscribers had been affected since yesterday.

The ship is alleged to have dropped anchor and damaged the SEA-ME-WE III cable linking Sri Lanka to the internet backbone.

Services will remain interrupted for at least another day or two until a repair ship carries out its work.

This is outright hilarious.. He he!

The Joy of reading

Ever feel like your caught in the web of mundane tasks that keep your life going; The fact is you dont realise that you are in a web till you get you get out of it..Anyways it has been a while since I took a book(non techie) and finished it cover to cover, well it finally happened and it feels good. Reminds me of the careless days where I just had to get up brush and then start with a book and just lay there all day.. Not to mention being yelled at in the evening my “Big Bro” .. Pleasant memories.. Oh well heres the book I read and it would very good.

Exporting DB schema & Migration[Sybase]

Often while in a corporate environment one needs to export the schema/database to their own machine to play around with. This is especially true if you dont have permissions to install tools to help you export. After some dig up landed up with a awesome script does this for you.

dbschema.pl is a classic example of how easy it is to build an extremely powerful script using Sybperl.  In essence it provides a straightforward means of extracting the schema (DDL) from a Sybase database directly into one or more files.  In fact, the latest release will extract the schema of an entire server into a series of files organised into directories (folders) for ease of management

Unfortunately the author site no longer has the files to download, I emailed him and he was kind enough to send out the zip. So if anyone out there lands up on this entry looking for the zip, please email me and I will be glad to send it out to you.

One of the most important reasons for a developer to use sourceforge.net.
