Dave Winer takes a break!

Happened to visit his blog as usual and found the follow

So I’m shutting down Scripting News now, to give me some time to think, and to give you all a demo of what it would be like if it weren’t here. These last few days have been really awful. You can’t imagine what it’s like to have so many people screaming at you. It’s inhuman, especially considering that my health isn’t that good. The only conclusion I can come to is that I shouldn’t be doing this. “
“I provide and UserLand provides, for free, after years of pouring money and energy into community building, and the lack of appreciation for any of that in the community. “

Is he talking about his blog? Im not sure what he is talking when is says “Userland provides for free” .. Anyways a break is good for anyone you come back with refreshing ideas and are not stressed. I just took one myself. I wish him well.

Never Send A Human To Do A Machine's Job…

Neat Tshirt ;) I’m tempted!

Rebates! Rebates! Rebates!

How many times have you not filed a rebate? or how many times have you not got your back at all or got it after 6 months?

Reuters has a nice writeup on “Rebate Hell”

Oops: that reminds me I better fill my 35$ rebate for my hard disk!

QOTD: how well have you used LinkedIN?

Its been almost 4 weeks since I signed up for LinkedIN. I did so cuz many in the blogsphere signed up for it and frankly I wanted to exploit it as a medium for finding new jobs! But Alas I havent capitalised on this as yet. I really want to know the experience of others using LinkedIN? Any thoughts?

While I was away!

Apologize for the lack of updates. Just felt burnt out in life and I needed to shut myself off! Well its time to be wake up! Have taken enough of a break. While I was away a lot seems to have taken place.

Anyways its good to be back :) Will be back to my old schedule.. Stay tuned!

Java regexes support controversy

I was reading a JDK1.4 book and I came across the following:

”Java supports regexes through a library rather than a specialized syntax, which is a feature or a bug, depending on who you talk to. Other than this, however, Javas regex support is quite strong.”

Does anyone have info on the controversy? Any thread or document that addresses the use of a library rather than a specialized syntax? Also whats the general feedback on regexes thro Java. It seems to me that the performance would depend on the selection of library implementation. I found a whole slew of implementations here.

50 best web sites

Time has come out with list of 50 best websites. Although some of them are obvious I did find a few interesting ones that I have not been using. Pretty useful list.

Whatever happened to human clones?

Remember the hopla about human cloning end of last year by a freaky organisation named clonaid? Whatever happened to these bozos! All the news organisations were all over it. Might of have the biggest hoax in the last few years! Its been 7 months and I have not heard a word of it. These freaks should jailed!
