Blogs from India
I was blogrolling yesterday and ended up readings lots of intresting stuff. There’s a whole world of Indian bloggers..Some intersting ones as well.
For instance look at Nilesh’s plan for Indian bloggers.
It looks damn good. This guy has a good taste for UI.
I am yet to find a way to convert my favorites to OPML, once I do that look out for indian bloggers under blog rolling.
Freeroller Improvements
Freeroller Downtime :(
Out of the last 3 days that i have tried to log in, freeroller has been down 2 of the times and this kinda dampens my enthusiasm to blog. But I understand Anthony has a lot on his plate and i just read his blog, he has 2 year old triplets. I am suprised that he has come this far and does so many things. I am sticking on with freeroller! Having said that after Anthony’s blog requesting for help, I sent out an email offering help. It appears Anthony has got many mails and is working thro them(Atleast I have not heard back from him). It appears from his blog that his is running Tomcat(Impressive one tomcat server is serving so many folks) on Madrake box. I dont know what kind of problems he is facing, whether its with the provider or just a matter of starting the tomcat server. If its just a question of restarting the server, then would the following solve the problem?.
- Setting up a cron job on the box to check to see if Tomcat is running. If the process is not running it can be started.
- Set up init.rc to start up Tomcat when the machine reboots.
I hope Im not sounding like the peanut gallery. Again Anthony, Im available for help you in any way I can.
IE Favorites to OPML
I tried to upload by favorites to add to be my blogrolling and I realised that the Freeroller takes files in OPML format. After searching around it appears OPML (Outline Processor Markup Language) was founded in 2000 and is widely used in blogging. I tried hunting around to see how I could convert my favorites into OPML and have not found any utility. Does anyone know of such a utility? Mail me at
Need to read more to see the advantages of using OPML…
More progress …
After more work the UI looks much cleaner and page looks more organised. There’s a long way to go … but i think its good enough to start blogging.
- Need to have a “Add Comments” link for each log.
- Need to Add Favourite blogs.
- Need to change my pic
I think its too scary - Last but not the least … need to start penning down my thoughts…..
Love Freeroller
I just added a new log asking about commenting tools in freeroller and in less than half an hour, i get an email from Anthony:
Just read your entry about having comments in Roller. The next release is supposed to include comments according to the developer list, so perhaps if you can wait a little bit longer I will be able to roll out the solution for you on FreeRoller.net.
Sincerely,
Anthony Eden
Boy I am feeling good already! I’m glad I chose freeroller instead of http://www.WebCrimson.com. Thanks a lot for the update andy!
Commenting tools for Freeroller
I have been trying to get a commenting tool in place for the weblog and it appears that there are’nt many choices available for freeroller. I have looked at other blogs that have been around for sometime using http://www.freeroller.net/index.jsp, the only viable option seems to be http://www.freeroller.net/page/ceperez and he seems to be using http://www.quicktopic.com/. Im not too impressed with this option as I would have to create a new topic for the blog and create sub topics branched from the new topic, which sux! If anyone knows of anyother tools to use for freeroller please email me at arjunram at myway dot com.
A new year, A new beginning
I have renamed my blog to “Blog for thought”. After having names like /life/procrastination and cat procarastion> life its time to move on… What was I thinking?
I need to do a couple of things tommorow.
- Write up a description for my blog.
- Change the font for the title.
- I wanna redesign the category box.
- More to add later .. i’m off to sleep….
